It’s really important your child has the correct size gloves. It’s highly recommended that the first time purchasing a pair of gloves you try them on in-store. Having gloves that are too small or large will only hinder the ability for the player to be able to catch the ball effectively. Usually during early years they go up a size each year. Sizes range from 2-11, some examples below…
Size 2 Small Child Age 5 years, Size 5 Medium Child 9 years, Size 6-7 Large Child 9-12 years, Size 9.5 – 10 Large Adult Senior
Choose the right cut - A "cut" simply refers to the style that the palm and fingers are constructed and stitched in. There are various types with different properties; some may be tighter than others, some may offer a higher latex coverage on the ball while others may offer a more "true" feel plus many more. Whatever your child is more comfortable with is fine.
It’s imperative a goalkeeper looks after their gloves after every training session or match. Caring for gloves will increase the lifespan; use the bag the gloves came in. Depending on what surface/s you are playing, most goalkeepers will go through two or three pairs of gloves in one season, unlike boots which usually last once a season.
Post-game, give them a good rinse and let them air dry. This way, they stay flexible and game-ready.

Depending on the age of the child and at what stage they are at, be sensible with purchasing gloves. A beginner does not require the most expensive pair of gloves. They are still developing and will go through gloves quicker than a senior keeper. With that in mind, buying the cheapest usually will not give them any grip and will be harder for them to catch the ball. It may be worth opting for a lower rated latex until they are ready to jump up to something pro grade like "Contact" latex.
Always take a bottle of water with you in the goal so that you can water your gloves before and during the game to activate your grip.
