In the world of youth academy football, the goalkeeper coach holds a pivotal position. Specialised training and guidance are essential for nurturing young talents. Here at ISGKCoaching we try to influence player development, and contribute to the success of aspiring goalkeepers.
At the heart of a goalkeeper coach’s responsibilities lies the task of providing comprehensive technical and tactical training. This encompasses teaching fundamental goalkeeping techniques such as handling, diving, footwork, distribution, and positioning. Through close collaboration with young players, our coaches refine their technique and enhance their decision-making abilities, fostering effectiveness and confidence in their role
Recognising that each goalkeeper posses unique strengths, weaknesses, and developmental needs, a skilled goalkeeper coach provides personalised attention and tailored training plans. By identifying specific areas for improvement, we design drills and exercises that address these needs directly. This personalised approach empowers young goalkeepers to progress at their own pace and build upon their natural abilities
The mental demands of goalkeeping require mentorship and psychological support, an integral part of a goalkeeper coach’s role. We help to guide goalkeepers in developing resilience, confidence, and mental toughness, enabling them to thrive under pressure, bounce back from setbacks, and perform at their peak. By serving as role models, goalkeeper coaches instill discipline, work ethic, and perseverance both on and off the field
As natural leaders of the defence, goalkeepers rely on effective communication. Goalkeeper coaches emphasize the development of communication and leadership skills in young goalkeepers. We teach effective methods of interaction with teammates, organising the defence, and asserting themselves as leaders on the field. These skills foster teamwork and elevate the overall performance of the entire team
The physical fitness and resilience of young goalkeepers are entrusted to the expertise of goalkeeper coaches. At request, we can design training programs focusing on agility, strength, flexibility, and endurance, tailored to the specific demands of the goalkeeper position. Furthermore, we educate players about injury prevention techniques, warm-up exercises, and proper recovery strategies
Continuous evaluation and progress tracking are central to the role of goalkeeper coaches. We provide constructive feedback, set achievable goals, and monitor performance, technical development, and tactical understanding. Regular assessments enable goalkeeper coaches to identify strengths, address weaknesses, and guide young goalkeepers on their developmental journey effectively
To be a great goalkeeper you require a sound technique. We explore all the techniques, positioning and how they should be used to receive the ball correctly.
Weight distribution is key to having good balance. This involves the head being forward and the hands in a catching position. At all times they should be relaxed and comfortable.
Goalkeepers often have to make a diving save in order to stop the opposing team scoring. We cover all aspects of diving saves from collapsing saves through to a top hand save.
All about narrowing the angle. Each time the ball changes position, the goalkeeper must adjust their position to achieve the correct position in relationship to the ball.
Some of the most memorable saves have often been instant reaction saves. We work on being on your toes and simply keeping the ball out of the net at all costs, sometimes not using 'orthodox' techniques (foot saves)
When an attacker is past the last defender and it is a duel between the attacker and goalkeeper, they are now in a 1 v 1 situation. We work on positioning, narrowing the angles and staying on your feet
Working on the goalkeepers role in transition to attacking. Distribution is vital to beating the press and setting up attacks. In our sessions we cover all areas of distribution (hands and feet)
This area of goalkeeping is regarded as being one of the most difficult. Dealing with these situations requires both sound technique, good decision making and effective communication
